🍛 MTR begins not with an instant-mix packet, but with a restaurant. In 1924, the Maiya family opened Mavalli Tiffin Rooms in Bangalore, and restaurant cooking became the foundation of the brand. When MTR later moved into packaged foods, it was translating an already established South Indian food culture into new formats.
🥣 During the 1970s, the brand expanded strongly into convenience foods. Ready mixes made dishes such as idli, dosa and gulab jamun quicker to prepare without starting every step from scratch. That is the strength of MTR: not to “replace” home cooking, but to shorten some of its most demanding preparation stages.
At Taj Mahal, choose MTR by the dish and format. A mix, ready-to-eat pack and other products can have very different preparation logic, so check the exact instructions and ingredients before buying.
