✨ Emami began in Kolkata in 1974 almost as an entrepreneurial experiment. Friends R. S. Agarwal and R. S. Goenka left secure jobs with the Birla Group, invested about ₹20,000 in Kemco Chemicals and personally sold their early cosmetic products around the city — including from a hand-pulled rickshaw.
🌿 That very grounded beginning grew into a major Indian personal-care house, where modern mass-market cosmetics often sit beside Ayurvedic and botanical themes. The mix of local cultural context, accessible formats and strong individual product lines helped make Emami recognisable.
At Taj Mahal, Emami is best explored by category — skin care, hair care or another format. Do not apply the marketing claims of one item to the entire brand; formulation, directions and cautions should be assessed product by product.
